About Operation Roger Wilco
My name is Steven, a Disabled Veteran & Founder of Operation Roger Wilco, a nonprofit 501(c)(3), whose mission is to enrich the lives of Veterans and Military personnel while they recover in the hospital.
Operation Roger Wilco lets our heroes know that they are not alone, by personally visiting with hospitalized veterans and military members to provide enrichment kits for calming activities, comfort kits for personal health, and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) & Suicide Awareness Education, at no cost.
Speaking from personal experience, hospitalization is lonely and depressing.
For example, Hospitalized Veterans and Military are separated from their loved ones and brothers/sisters-in-arms, also they may feel lonely and emotionally isolated due their physical injuries and limited visitation. In addition, due to traumatic service experience, Veterans and Military members may have Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and some have thoughts of suicide. In 2020, there was an average of 16.8 Veteran suicides per day, according to the National Veteran Suicide Prevention Annual Report VA Suicide Prevention Office of Mental Health and Suicide Prevention September 2022.
Many years ago, before the COVID pandemic, my wife, service dog and I visited with hospitalized Veterans and Military at our local VA and Base Hospitals, delivering donated enrichment and comfort kits and providing information about PTSD and Suicide awareness education. These encounters brought us so much joy and fellowship we included these same visits during our vacations, which were always the highlight of our trips.
We have formalized our efforts into Operation Roger Wilco, creating a Disabled Veteran Owned Nonprofit 501(c)(3) EIN 923260178, so that we can continue our mission across the United States to give back to those who have served and brighten their day.
